Rachael, adorable and oh so patriotic. She and Benny have matching summer holiday shirts thanks to my hand me down-ing neighbor. Thank you, Deb!!
Once again, the older boys were in our local Memorial Day parade. It was a hot morning, but we all enjoyed going at watching them march by. For a relatively small town it is a big parade. 2 bands, lots of fire-trucks and military vehicles and some local politicians. An ice-cream truck giving all the kids free rocket pops, lots and lots of candy thrown, and fun with family. After the parade ends there is a ceremony at the fire-house that always makes me so thankful for the men who served our country. There are a few prayers, and speeches, and laying of wreaths on the memorial and taps and a 21 gun salute. After that, free hot dogs and sodas and chips for all parade participants, which is a big number. I enjoy life in a small town.
After the parade and ceremony and free hot dogs, and spilled sodas, we headed to Joel's brother's home for a fun family picnic. We didn't get home until 8 at night. We came home with an entire bag of dirty muddy clothing from the water gun wars. Thankfully I had packed a spare for the littler children (and Rachael, who went through her spare outfit also, has cousins her same size!) I mostly sat in whatever shade I could find, kept an eye out for Asher, and drank way too much iced tea! Joel played lots of volleyball, horseshoes and drank too much iced tea!
